HDH Awarded Fourth Consecutive Accreditation with Exemplary Standing
December 23, 2025
Hanover and District Hospital (HDH) is proud to announce that it has once again been awarded Accreditation with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada — marking the fourth consecutive accreditation cycle in which the hospital has achieved this highest possible designation.
Accreditation with Exemplary Standing recognizes organizations that not only meet, but exceed national standards of excellence in patient safety, quality of care, governance, leadership, and continuous improvement. This designation confirms that HDH consistently delivers care through a strong patient safety and quality lens, embedding best practices, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement into everyday operations. Achieving Exemplary status four times in a row places HDH among a small group of hospitals across Canada with sustained, demonstrated excellence.
This accomplishment is particularly meaningful given the current healthcare environment. Like many hospitals, HDH continues to experience increased patient volumes and system pressures, including the impacts of operational changes and closures at nearby local hospitals, which have placed additional demand on services, staff, and resources.
“Achieving Exemplary status for the fourth consecutive time is an incredible accomplishment and a true reflection of the dedication and resilience of our staff, physicians, and volunteers,” said Dana Howes, President and CEO of Hanover and District Hospital. “To earn this recognition while navigating increased pressures and ongoing operational changes across our local health system speaks volumes about the strength of our teams and their unwavering commitment to patient safety, quality, and providing exceptional care to our community.”
The Accreditation Canada surveyors highlighted HDH’s strong culture of safety, patient-centered approach, teamwork across disciplines, and commitment to continuous quality improvement. Accreditation is based on rigorous, evidence-based standards and includes extensive on-site assessment, staff engagement, and system review.
“This recognition reinforces that even in times of challenge and change, HDH continues to deliver safe, high-quality care close to home,” added Howes. “We are incredibly proud of our team and grateful to our community for their continued trust and support.” Hanover and District Hospital remains committed to building on this strong foundation as it continues to respond to evolving community needs and health system demands.
