 Dr. Randy Montag

DR. RANDY MONTAG - Chief of Staff

Current Practice – Family Medicine, ER, Anaesthesia

Growing up as a local farm-boy I graduated from Walkerton’s Sacred Heart High School in 1990. Fourteen years, three degrees, three Universities, 27 moves and three cars later, I returned to my old stomping grounds. I obtained my degree in Medicine from the University of Western Ontario and completed my Residency training in Family Medicine and Anesthesia in Sudbury. My wife Dr. Pamela Gold and I came to the area in October 2004, and after checking out several local communities both signed in Hanover in April, 2005. I currently divide my time between Family Medicine, ER, Anaesthesia and In-patient Care. Away from work I enjoy time with my wife and 5 children as well as hiking, reading and playing computer games.

Dr. Nick Abell

Current Practice – Family Medicine, ER, Family Health Team Lead Physician

I was born and raised in a small rural farming community in Manitoba that boasted a population of 500. Becoming a doctor was “in the genes” as my mother, father, brother, grandfather and great uncle are all doctors. I graduated from the University of Manitoba Medical School and completed my medical training with the Rural Manitoba Family Medicine program. I joined the Hanover medical team in 2007 after working in rural BC for 4 years. I was an avid hockey player at the Junior A, Junior B and University levels before medical school and Senior hockey after graduation. I spend most of my time with my wife Rozi and three children. The remainder is left cheering for the best hockey team in Canada – the Canucks!

Dr. Bob Basilij

Current Practice – Family Medicine, Colonoscopies & minor surgeries

Having received my MD Certification from the University of Western Ontario and my College of Family Practice Certification from the University of Calgary, I moved to Hanover in 1984. My family practice includes a large base of nursing home patients who I visit weekly.  I also work in the OR weekly performing colonoscopies. Throughout my career I have held many academic positions such as Chief of Staff, Preceptor for The University of Western Ontario, Chief of Emergency Medicine and President of the Medical Staff at HDH. I love to spend time with my wife and three children and enjoy skiing, biking and travelling.

Dr. Susan Batten

Current Practice - Family Medicine, OBS, Palliative Care

It has been a great pleasure to complete my family medicine residency program here in Hanover.  I have moved my family here, purchased and renovated a farm, and even now have chickens.  My children have settled into the community and into our local schools, and we feel that we belong here, that this is OUR community.

Currently I consider myself a rural generalist, as I tend to do a bit of everything these days:
I am a board member of the Regional Hospice of Grey Bruce, and I also work at Chapman House Hospice.  I work as the Lead Palliative care physician on our Grey/Bruce Palliative Care Outreach Team, which means I do home visits for people needing palliative care support in the southern part of Grey/Bruce.  I do primary care obstetrics, and have the honour of working with a great team of midwives, physicians and nurses at HDH in my role.  I work at the Hanover Medical Associates as a family doctor and support over 800 patients with outpatient care through our clinic and our Family Health Team.

I am a Western University and McMaster University preceptor for Family Medicine residents and medical students - which allows us to engage and encourage more students of medicine to work in our area, and maybe one day stay here.

I am also a mother, a wife, a volunteer and a gardener, and donate my time to medical relief overseas.  Finally, I love the outdoors, and love to go out 'unplugged' in a canoe when I can.

I am your neighbour.... This IS the place to be!

Dr. Bruce Edington

Current Practice – Family Medicine

Upon graduating from UWO I completed 3 years of residency and then worked in Northern Ontario in a General Practice. My wife and I relocated to Hanover because of the many opportunities for our family, the collegial medical community and the rewarding medical practice. Since being here we have taken advantage of all that Hanover has to offer including the French Immersion school program, the many music opportunities, skiing, sailing, pottery, minor hockey, figure skating, summer sports programs, outdoor camping and hiking to mention some of the recreational activities.

Current Practice – Family Medicine

After a childhood spent moving from province to province across Canada, I moved to Vancouver where I attended Medical School. Despite a love of the British Columbia lifestyle, I moved to London, Ontario for my Residency. In early 2000, I met Dr. Randy Montag at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and we married the following September on the condition that Randy agreed to cohabitate with my “killer” cat in exchange for my promise to settle in Ontario. We both joined the Hanover Medical Associates in April 2005 and were especially attracted to the spacious modern clinic and friendly, helpful staff. Randy and I have five children, so I divide my time between medical and domestic duties. I enjoy family fun, reading, travelling.

Dr. Tim Hereema

Current Practice – Family Medicine, ER

Born and raised in London, ON. I became increasingly interested in Family Medicine during my years at the University of Western Ontario where I received both my Medical Doctorate and College of Family Practice Certification. Additional interests include Emergency Medicine topics, so I decided to pursue training in this field with a further year of residency training. I divide my time between the ER and my Family Practice. Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my wife and children and try to fit in numerous hobbies including sports, music, and board games. My wife and I also own a unique store in downtown Hanover – “The Giddy Goblin Games & Goodies”.

Current Practice - Family Medicine, OBS

I was born and raised in Chepstow and like Dr Montag, I also graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton. My educational journey involved a B.Sc from the University of Guelph, a M.Sc from McMaster University and a Medical Doctorate from the University of Ottawa. Having spent numerous years away from the area, I was thrilled to return to start my family medicine residency in Hanover through the University of London. I am  involved in family medicine, obstetrics and in-patient care. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband and our  children as well as swimming, camping and reading.
