HDH COVID-19 Assessment Centre

Starting September 24, 2020 the COVID-19 Assessment Centre will be moving to an online booking system.  Appointments for the Assessment Centre will be posted up to 48 hours in advance only.  Priority will be given to individuals with appointments.

Walk-ins are welcome but can expect to have a longer wait and may not get to be seen based on patient volumes and physician and staff availability

BOOK NOW

The booked appointments will be one hour time slots.  For example, if a patient books an appointment during the 1:00pm - 1:59pm timeslot, they may attend the centre at any point during that time period for their appointment.  Look for the line marked "Booked Appointments".

Hours of Operation: The HDH COVID-19 Assessment Centre will be expanding its' hours starting September 24, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the last booked timeslot at 5:00 p.m from Monday to Friday.

Location: The HDH COVID-19 Assessment Centre is located in the main lobby.  Please enter through the main entrance at the front of the building.

Parking: Parking is available within the hospital's parking lots for a flat fee of $3.00.  For the safety of our patients, staff and passing motorists, we ask that you do not park on the sides of the road.

When should I come to the Assessment Centre?

The HDH COVID-19 Assessment Cente is experiencing a high volume of people.  Depending on volumes, please be prepared for a longer wait time.  Public Health does not advise testing for people without symptoms unless for a long term care visit or medical procedure.  Please remember to social distance, wear a mask and hand wash.

  • Your health care provider has told you to get tested because you have COVID-19 related symptoms.  If you think you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has it, use this self-assessment to help determine how to seek further care. Self-Assessment Link
  • Public Health has let you know that you are a close contact to someone who has COVID-19, based on a thorough risk assessment.
  • You require a COVID-19 test in order to visit a long term care facility, receive a medical procedure or to return to work.

Visitors:

Visiting restrictions have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  These restrictions will be relaxed in a careful and gradual way starting with visiting for admitted patients.

Visitation will expand to include one (1) designated visitor per day for acute inpatients.

At this time, visitor restrictions remain in place for the Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory and Surgical Services, unless the patient is a child or requires a support person.

Some exceptions to this may be made for compassionate reasons (e.g. obstetrics, intensive care or palliative patients or a parent escorting their child to the Emergency Department).  If an exception is made, only one (1) visitor per patient will be permitted.

This it to protect the safety of our patients, physicians and staff and we will continue to evaluate the situation.

The front entrance continues to be closed.  All patients must enter through the Emergency Department entrance.

As a COVID-19 precaution, upon arrival, you will be screened before entering the building and will be asked to clean your hands.  You may also be asked to put on a mask.

Reduction of Services:

To limit the number of people entering our building, and reducing services so we can focus our resources, we will be introducing a number of service reductions:

  • Outpatient clinics have been cancelled until further notice, with the exception of the Obstetrics clinic.
  • Dialysis patients will continue to receive treatments.
  • All non-urgent surgeries will be cancelled.  Emergency and cancer-related surgeries will continue.  Drs Kieffer and Duque will continue to see patients in their offices.
  • All Laboratory services will continue.
  • Diagnostic Imaging will be reviewing all scheduled appointments to determine what can be put on hold; however cancer-related follow-up appointments and urgent tests will continue.

Out gift shop will remain closed, and all of our auxiliary volunteers will be staying home for now.

All construction projects at the hospital have been suspended.

Donations of Personal Protectice Equipment (PPE)

Like many other hospitals, HDH is asking the public for donations of PPE.  If you can support our healthcare workers in preparation for increased cases of COVID-19, we are asking for the following new, unused supplies:

  • Disposable isolation gowns
  • Gloves - Examination or surgeons gloves (Vinyl/Nitrile)

Please email info@hdhospital.ca to arrange delivery/pickup for these items.  Thank you to the community members that have already been reaching out to help.
