President's Message

Welcome to the hospital web page!

Hanover & District Hospital, established in 1923, is an accredited acute care community-based facility with a rural difference. We are proud of a three-year award for accreditation received in October 2007. Our primary goal is to promote and maintain the best health in all whom we serve.

Hanover and District Hospital is officially an 80-bed facility. Currently, we staff 36 acute care beds, which includes one multi-purpose specialty care bed, two family centered care obstetrical suites, and two palliative care suites. For the obstetrical population, Hanover and District Hospital offers prenatal clinics for expectant moms, with or without family physicians. As a rural facility we are proud to continue the service of delivering babies.

Other out-patient services include Diabetic Education and Physiotherapy Services for adults. Physiotherapy is also provided for in-patients. The Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging (X-ray) departments are open Monday to Friday with staff on-call as required, after hours. Diagnostic Imaging includes x-rays, ultrasound, mammography and cardiac-echo ultrasound to name a few.

Hanover and District Hospital is pleased to have our own on-site surgeon. There are two Operating Room theatres and three Recovery Room beds.

Over the last 30 years, Hanover and District Hospital has provided a hemo-dialysis unit with six chairs currently in full operation. This service is a satellite site from London Health Sciences Center- University Hospital. A dialysis assessment clinic is offered once a month with a physician and nurse practitioner from London. An outreach educational program was recently started for chronic renal failure patients.

Hanover and District Hospital provides a 24-hour emergency service that is staffed by highly qualified and skilled professionals. The Emergency Department is open 24 hours, seven days per week. Physician coverage has been a difficult task in the past, but this issue has been resolved with the arrival of Dr. Eisenbarth. As our new Chief of Emergency Department, Dr. Eisenbarth works exclusively in the Emergency Department with our local physicians and travelling locum physicians to help keep the emergency department staffed.

Ambulatory services include a number of specialist clinics, such as speech therapy, pediatrics, endocrinology/internal medicine, obstetrics, orthopaedics, urology, and an ear, nose and throat specialist. Hanover and District Hospital is grateful to the specialists who travel from outside the community to our organization to provide services. In addition we have a unique rural Medical Day Hospital Program. The Medical Day Hospital Program is provided three days per week and the Home and Community Support Services Day Away Program runs currently, two days per week. Home and Community Support program is not run by our hospital staff.

The Hospital Board of Directors is comprised of 16 volunteer members of the community, elected or appointed from the area served by the hospital. Hospital Board meetings are open to the public, with meetings normally held on the third Tuesday of each month except July, August and December. The Board of Directors provides governance and sets policy for the operation of the hospital.

Our dedicated Auxiliary has more than 200 volunteers helping us make a difference as well as the Foundation Fundraising arm. The Foundation and the Auxiliary provide resources by providing volunteer services and raising funds for the Hanover and District Hospital. The revenue provides for capital projects, equipment needs, and patient programs that will assist in providing quality health care for all patients.

As leaders and front line staff, we are committed to quality health care. We partner with and value our employees, volunteers, suppliers and neighbours. We believe in our Mission, Vision and Values Statement.

At Hanover & District Hospital we "walk our talk"!

President and Chief Executive Officer
